Glen, I loved your article. In this difficult time, it was so inspiring and provided a bodily awareness to what's happening and such useful thoughts about how to use that energy And sharing your own unfortunate experience to bring compassion and understanding.. Thank you for providing a hopeful response to this mess.

Dear Brother,

Thanks for yet another inspiring essay!

Though you’re only two years older, your recollections of Caroline, FDR, and Max on Adlai Stevenson were just beyond my memories and consciousness. Like you, I have always considered myself a liberal Democrat, grateful for and inspired by democracy throughout my adult life.

But unlike you, who dedicated your life to public service, I have followed the path of a serial entrepreneur. At times, I’ve been drawn toward the more self-interested aspects of that journey—the desire for control, power, and shaping my own destiny. As an architect, I’ve longed to create public and private spaces that I believed were great, yet architecture is such a capital-intensive field. There have been moments when I wished I had inherited $150 million from my father, the way Trump did from his father, to freely pursue those ambitions.

Your brilliant essay, with its personal reflections and its focus on the power of a leader who stands strong like a warrior yet remains devoted to the public good, is deeply inspiring. You have been an inspiration to me for many decades, and it’s wonderful to see you continuing to reflect, write, and work toward the greater good.

The idea that true warriors and leaders are focused on service rather than personal gain, is a powerful and necessary reminder—especially in today’s world.

With admiration,

Randy
